Pharaon (Pilots for Healthy and Active Ageing) is an Innovation Action funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. This large-scale pilot project involves partners from 12 European countries and aims to achieve smart and active living for Europe’s ageing population.

In this part of the society, there is a growing need for tools that will improve the quality of life, independence and overall health of older adults. Advanced ICT solutions that combine technologies from multiple disciplines can address this problem. The overall objective of the Pharaon project is to provide support for Europe’s ageing population by integrating digital services, devices, and tools into open platforms that can be readily deployed while maintaining the dignity of older adults and enhancing their independence, safety, and capabilities.

Maastricht Instruments will use its expertise in the field of motion sensors and the associated software. We will provide the participants in the project with simple and understandable tools to measure physical activity and provide information about a healthy movement pattern.

Pharaon will create a set of highly customizable interoperable open platforms, which will integrate advanced services, devices (such as accelerometers) and tools. These solutions will be widely tested and validated, with the aim to respond to the needs of older adults and aim to enhance independence, safety and capabilities of people as they age.
